Where is Svartisen located? Svartisen is located some 2 hours south of Bodø.
How much time do we need for a trip to Svartisen? For a day-trip to Svartisen we will need about 10 - 12 hours. An average trip on the ice needs 3 - 4 hours.
How many people could join this trip? Maximum size of a group for a guided glacier trip to Svartisen is about 40. Large groups will be divided into smaller groups each with one guide. Most of our trips to the glacier are smaller groups, you will never experience Svartisen to be crowded with people.
Svartisen; fitness level Moderate fitness and agility is required. Involves some steady, well-graded uphill walking for 1 hour to reach the glacier. The degree of difficulty and the precise route is carefully chosen to fulfill the desires and physique of the group itself. Reccomended minimum age for children is 8 years
Please bring Bring your own hiking boots and personal clothing; 3 - 4 layers of varm upper body clothing, gloves, a varm cap, sunglasses and sun protection. Raincoats may be suitable if rain.
Jeans are not recommended on wet days as they become very cold and uncomfortable to wear. A day pack is useful and a drink and snacks are nice to have. Be sure to bring your camera and lots of film.
Our guides and languages We only use experienced guides for the glacier trips to Svartisen. All our guides speaks quite good english.
How to travel to Svartisen? Transportion is not included in the price, but we will be glad to help you with planning that.
On the way to Svartisen you will pass through the beautiful landscape along the Coastal Highway, Rv 17, which experienced travellers refer to as one of the most scenic stretch of road in the world.
Those who choose to travel by boat to Svartisen, get an excellent coastal impression of Nordland county.
To travel by boat; you can either go by express boat or the Norwegian Coastal Voyage (hurtigruten). In both cases you will need a taxi between Ørnes and Holand (near the glacier).
Accomodation at Svartisen A trip to Svartisen could be done as a day-trip from Bodø, but we do reccomend you to stay one night near the glacier.You will either stay in a cozy hut with shower, toilet and electricity or lavvo (sami tents).
Is this trip dependent on weather conditions? No, a guided glacier tour to Svartisen could be done even in rainy weather if you are well dressed.
